Efatha Seminary is committed to protecting the rights of the child by ensuring all students in our care are living in a safe and healthy environment. We are dedicated to protecting every child and young person from any abuse, neglect, or violation of their human rights. In implementing this policy, the Seminary recognises the child protection regulations as stated in the laws of Tanzania, specifically the Law of the Child Act of 2009, as well as all applicable international laws.
At Efatha Seminary, we believe that the school plays a vital role in nurturing and protecting children in society for their proper upbringing, as children spend most of their time at school. Teachers and staff are well-positioned to observe and interact with children over extended periods. Therefore, at Efatha Seminary, we recognise that teachers and all staff placed in a role of caring for children have a professional and ethical obligation to protect them, identify those in need of help and protection, and take the necessary steps to ensure every child is safe and well cared for.
All staff employed at Efatha Seminary must report any suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect whenever there is reasonable cause to believe that a child has suffered, or is at significant risk of suffering, abuse or neglect. Reporting and follow-up of all suspected incidents will proceed in accordance with the administrative regulations outlined in this policy. In cases where suspected child abuse or neglect involves a parent, guardian, or any other person, the matter may be reported to the appropriate authority as the Seminary seeks to remain a haven for students who may be experiencing abuse or neglect in any aspect of their lives.
To ensure effective child protection, Efatha Seminary will communicate this policy annually to parents, students, and staff. Training will be provided for all employees, and every effort will be made to implement hiring practices that safeguard children. This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
If a staff member is reported as an alleged offender, Efatha Seminary will conduct a thorough investigation, following due process, while prioritising the safety and welfare of the child at the highest level.
